Michael Belrich was born into a strict family with his fraternal twin sister, Michelle. They've always had an unhealthy sibling rivalry that's gotten out of hand the last recent years. Always competing with grades, after school activities, talents. It was never ending. And Michelle always came out on top.
She had good grades, she was in choir, hell she even went to church. Her room was always organized, she had a lot of friends, student counsel president...
Then there was Michael. Disaster at football tryouts, unimpressive grades, kicked out of several after school activities, no longer welcome at church. He was in constant trouble for vandalism, underage drinking, assault, trespassing. His friends were all obnoxious scumbags in and out of juvenile detention.
Michael has a very loud personality and a colorful vocabulary. He's constantly yelling and insulting people, but there's no actual harm behind these words. It's just how he talks. People often understandably take it the wrong way, though.
His hyperactive behavior is a result of undiagnosed ADHD, as his parents refused to have him tested, much to his school's displeasure. Because getting tested would mean he wasn't perfect, and that was unacceptable.
Michael has no filter, because his friends didn't either. They would say whatever absurd and sometimes disgusting thing would come to mind, call each other every name in the book, and even play rough with each other, always resulting in some sort of minor injury.
His alcohol addiction started at a rather young age. It began at church, actually. He got a taste of the wine and didn't hate it. And some of the older boys snuck back behind the alter and stole a bottle, and of course Michael, insecure, wanted to fit in and drank with them. He was about nine when he first got drunk. And that's all it took to get hooked.
His parents never found out about the first few times, but he was immediately suspected once they noticed their wine cabinet had been tampered with. Pretty fucked up for a fourth grader to become an alcoholic, but he was addicted to the buzz, made him feel relaxed for once since he was constantly under pressure by his family to be the best.
His drinking was put to a stop for a while, but it started up again late into middle school, when kids started to party. That was also when he kissed his first boy, both drunk under the bleachers at a football game. The boys continued sneaking around after that, getting drunk and sharing kisses until the other boy ended up moving away.
Michael was able to keep his drinking habits under control until high school. That's when he completely lost control. Getting blackout drunk, waking up in strange places, having no knowledge of the night before. Once his family found out he'd been sleeping around, and with guys no less, he was sent to some brutal conversion therapy.
Receiving nothing besides PTSD from that, Michael was kicked out of the house and was forced to quit school for a while to get a job and support himself. He'd been homeless at least six times when his alcoholism got bad enough where he couldn't pay his bills, and getting hit by a car while drunk was the thing that made Michael sober up. He'd limit himself one drink a week, which resulted in a disastrous one night stand with another boy named Kira.
Just after turning eighteen, he was accepted into Blackwell Academy on a partial scholarship for digital art, something he'd taken up while on bed rest at the hospital.
Michael is deathly insecure, and always has been. He's never been good enough for anyone, starting with his family and continuing later on with boyfriends down the line. Michael will subject himself to abuse and degradation if it means being accepted every once in a while.
He's nowhere near confident about how he looks, and his god awful curls are always an atrocious sight. He's nothing. Someone who won't ever stand out for anything impressive. And he knows this. He's always known this. It's usually the trigger to his drinking.
He acts like he's chill and he doesn't care, mostly because he's grown accustomed to being nothing more than a loser. His sister is probably off being successful, unlike him, but he doesn't really know. They haven't spoken in a couple of years since he was tossed out.
Videogames and drawing are Michael's non-toxic hobbies, and he can usually be found playing something like GTAV or Minecraft. He still keeps in touch with his friends online for gaming.
His art is something he rarely shares unless it's for a grade. It's something that's calming for him, something that occupies his mind, something he doesn't wish to share with anyone else. It's his own private thing. Just his. And it's the only goddamn time he's ever quiet besides sleeping.
